OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A policeman thought fellow officers were
playing a joke on him when his police cruiser turned up missing after he
ducked out of the running car for a minute to clean some blood off his
boots.
It was no joke.
Christopher DeWayne Lewis, 30, was arrested Monday on allegations that
he stole the car, impersonated an officer and tried to rob a motorist.
His bond was set at $46,365.
The officer said he stopped his patrol car about 11:30 p.m. Friday to
clean some blood off his boots from an earlier investigation.
He left the police car running and unlocked. It was gone when he returned.
Lewis was arrested after the stolen police car collided with a truck
Monday, allegedly while he was fleeing from a motorist who had been
robbed.
Motorist Tandy Foreman said he gave chase after a man impersonating a
police officer stole his wallet during a traffic stop.
