A constable from Northumberland County was treated and released from the hospital Tuesday after being assaulted by a prisoner. The prisoner escaped from custody and is still on the run. Police believe he has at least two guns with him.

According to police, Constable Glenn Masser was using a transport SUV vehicle to transport Ronald Wolf, 36, from an arraignment in Sunbury to the Perry County jail on Tuesday afternoon. They were almost at the jail in New Bloomfield when Wolf attacked Masser in the SUV vehicle and escaped. "Some constables have police-like vehicles with a safety cage," said Sunbury Police Officer Mike Miller. "It was unfortunate Glenn didn't have one in his vehicle, and that's probably what happened with this incident."

District Justice Wade Brown arraigned Wolf on the robbery charges in Sunbury. Brown talked with Masser shortly after the incident. Masser told him Wolf suddenly head butted him while he was driving and climbed over the seat. "He (Wolf) did make the statement, 'I've got to get out of here'. Meaning I guess he had to get out of jail," said Brown. "He told the constable as he struggled for his gun, 'I don't want to kill you, but I have to get out of here'."

After he escaped, Wolf apparently broke into a home in Perry County. Police believe he got out of his prison jumpsuit and changed into street clothes that he found in the home. They also believe he stole an automatic pistol from the home. Police used a helicopter and dogs to search the area where the escape happened. So far, they have not been able to find Wolf.

Authorities said Wolf faces burglary and theft charges in both Perry County and Northumberland County. He was locked up on those charges in Perry County. When he made his escape, he was on his way back there from his arraignment in Northumberland County. Wolf is also wanted for robbery and theft in a third county.
