Police are following leads in the theft of an FBI car from a North Salt Lake neighborhood.
Sgt. Mitch Gwiliam said an agent was loading equipment into his car around 6 a.m. Friday when it was taken.
"He had gone out with a couple of pieces of equipment that he keeps in his house," Gwiliam said, "and had put those in the car and started the car and then went back in to grab one more piece, and in that timeframe the car was stolen."
The agent immediately called police, telling them there were guns inside the vehicle. Gwililam said that created some tense moments.
"The potential of what could be in a police car, there's a lot of dangerous stuff in there if it got in the wrong hands," Gwilliam said.
The car was found abandoned just a few blocks away. The FBI says none of the weapons was taken. Police Friday were processing the car for evidence.
