North Kansas City, MO-  Two Police Cars Stolen, Bullet Proof Vests Stolen

Officers Concerned About Police Impersonators

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Law enforcement officers across the metro area are concerned after some police equipment was stolen.

Between Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, two old squad cars -- a Crown Victoria and a Chevrolet Caprice -- were stolen from a lot on Burlington Avenue.

Officials said the thieves also took two bulletproof vests, two laptops and a safe filled with car titles.

Earlier this week, several police uniforms and badges were taken from Kansas City, Kan., squad cars. Investigators are not sure whether the thefts are related.

Police are concerned that the culprits could pose as real police officers and prey on innocent motorists. Chief Ladd warns people to ask to see an officer's identification instead of settling for the badge.

"The true proof of being a police officer is (a) commission card, not the badge," Ladd said.

If you are suspicious about an officer, notify police immediately, Ladd said.
