A city police cruiser was stolen and quickly recovered early Saturday morning after a Ledyard man allegedly took off with the vehicle while police were responding to a disturbance at a downtown bar.
According to police, officers were responding to a 2 a.m. disturbance at the Oasis Pub on Bank Street, during which they made arrests.
At some point during that incident, Brian Heller took the cruiser, police said, and drove it to the Walmart in Groton, where he was quickly apprehended by Groton Town and New London officers.
Heller, 26, of Gales Ferry, was charged with first-degree larceny. The vehicle was not damaged, according to New London police.
