Woman Steals Police Car following a Traffic Stop
March 4, 1999
An arrest warrant charging vehicle theft has been issued against Lois
Marie Stephans for stealing an unmarked police car following a traffic
stop February 25.
Stephens, 33, is likely staying in a Nashville area motel. She is actively
being sought by police. She is white, 5'4" tall, weights 120 pounds, has
blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone knowing of Stephens' whereabouts is urged
to contact police at 862-8600.
Stephens was stopped for speeding on I-40 near the Stewarts Ferry Pike exit
Feb. 25 by Traffic Division Officer Mike Bass. She did not produce a driver's
license, was arrested and placed in the rear seat of Bass' police car. As Bass
secured the Plymouth Sundance Stephens was driving, Stephens managed to get into
the front seat of the police car and drive away. The car was recovered undamaged
minutes later in Donelson. Stephens fled the scene on foot. At the time of the
traffic stop, Stephens was wanted for failing to appear in court on a 1998 drug
paraphernalia charge.
