MUSTANG A Mustang police car was stolen Wednesday morning, and was crashed
near the spot where it was taken.
Chadd N. Roark, 23, of Mustang, was taken to the Canadian County jail after
officers used a Taser to subdue him, Mustang police Capt. Willard James said.
The incident occurred while officers were responding to an alarm at Mustang High
Schools wellness center building, James said.
An officer pulled up to check the doors on the south side of the building and
found everything to be secure.
While he was checking the building, the officer heard his car door open and
close and turned around to see his car speeding off.
The officer reported his car stolen and began to run after it, James said.
Another officer went to the scene and was able to intercept the stolen cruiser,
which was still near the high school.
With his gun drawn, the second officer got out and ordered the driver to exit
the police car, but the driver backed up and continued to lead the second
officer on a chase through the neighborhood south of the high school.
When the chase made it back to the high school property, James said, the stolen
patrol car left the road and smashed through a pipe and cable fence before
crashing into a rock pile at a construction area.
"At that point, the vehicle was disabled and would not move, James said.
While the officer tried to take the driver into custody, James said, the man
knocked the officer back and tried to run away.
"A Taser was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody, the captain said.
Roark was arrested on complaints of larceny of an automobile, attempting to
elude police, resisting arrest, reckless driving, driving under suspension,
driving without headlights and destruction of city property.
Damage to the patrol car was estimated at about $2,000. Bail for Roark was set
at $8,872.
