Police Looking For Man Who Stole Patrol Car On Route to Jail

MOORPARK, Calif., Posted 11:46 a.m. PST December 28,2000
-- Police were on the lookout Thursday morning for an escaped
prisoner.

On Dec.24, Barrett Stites was arrested for attempting to run
over a police officer, CBS 2 News reported.

While en route to the jail, Stites reportedly slipped his
handcuffs from behind his back to the front of his body,
and when the deputy exited the patrol car, Stites got behind
the wheel and stole the car, the news station said.

The cruiser was later found, damaged. But Stites was nowhere to
be found, and he is still on the run.

If you have any information regarding the escaped prisoner, you
are asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
