An ill-conceived joyride led to injuries Sunday morning in the Plateau
borough after a man stole a police vehicle and crashed into a parked car.
As police were breaking up a fight outside a bar on St. Laurent Blvd. north
of Mont Royal Ave. about 3:40 a.m., a passerby who was completely uninvolved in
the incident snuck into the officers' vehicle and drove off, Montreal police
Constable Andre Leclerc said.
The man, in his 40s, then jumped out of the moving vehicle after a few metres.
As he was trying to run away from the officers pursuing him, he ended up hitting
his head on the pavement and was brought to a hospital unconscious.
Meanwhile, the patrol car kept moving and crashed into a woman in her 20s who
was about to get into a parked car. She was brought to a hospital with
injuries to her arm and pelvis.
Both the suspect and the victim were not seriously injured, Leclerc said.
The man was arrested and will be charged with theft and criminal negligence.
