1997-- Police in St. Paul and

Minneapolis had their hands
full overnight.
WCCO-Radio and WCCO-TV
recapped the frantic activities
in reports aired this morning.
In St. Paul, an 18-year-old suspected car thief led police on a
high-speed chase that resulted in several smashed squad cars, the
radio station said.
It began when the suspect rammed his stolen vehicle into a squad
car around 12:30 this morning, WCCO-Radio said. The chase ended
about 30 minutes later at Lake Street and Market Plaza near the
northwestern shore of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.
He rammed into a few more Minneapolis squad cars before it was all
over. The man sustained minor injuries, according to WCCO-Radio.
In Minneapolis, the two stations report that another accused car
thief added a police squad car to his booty overnight.
The thief was handcuffed in the back seat of a

squad when he kicked out the window,

and drove off, reports WCCO-Radio. Police caught him a
second time around midnight in downtown Minneapolis, when
he rammed a median across from the Target Center parking
ramp, the station said.

According to the radio station, the suspect also may have been
involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the night.
