A Miami-Dade detective suffered serious brain injury when he was hit in the head with a cinder block and run over with his police car, officials said.

Officer Carlos Castillo, 37, allegedly was attacked by Michael Robertson, 33, who was wanted for shooting a gun during an argument with the mother of his child, The Miami Herald reported Monday.

Castillo pulled Robertson's car over Friday night and Robertson fled on foot, said James Loftus, director of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

While Castillo was arresting Monica Banks, Robertson's girlfriend, Robertson allegedly came up behind Castillo and broke a cinder block against Castillo's head before kicking him in the chest and head and then driving over Castillo with the police car.

Robertson and Banks, 25, were arrested after allegedly driving off in the cruiser. They were charged with attempted first-degree murder and Robertson also was charged with robbery-carjacking, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Castillo was in critical but stable condition at a Miami hospital.
