Straight From Prison: I'm Reporting A Burglary
It was a telephone that no dispatcher would ever expect--a 911 call
from federal prison reporting a burglary.
Metro-Dade (Fla.) police said that's just what happened,
and when they arrived to investigate four
suspects began shooting at officers, and one female
suspect stolen a police car to escape. No one was
injured, but the prisoner's 4 and 14 year-old daughters,
and their aunt were shaken after being tied up.
The incident started when the unidentified prisoner was
talking to his oldest daughter on the telephone.
The inmate heard screams and other sounds, and then
the telephone went dead. He dialed 911 and
reached Metro-Dade dispatchers, who dispatched officers
to the daughter's home.
When officers arrived, the suspects began shooting.
The female suspect stolen a patrol car and later
abandoned it in a nearby mall. Another suspect was
arrested, but two other escaped. A neighboring
school was sealed for several hours as officers
searched the area.
Officials did not specify what charges had put
the inmate into prison, or if the home invasion
was connected with his charges.
