Memphis, TN - Cruiser Stolen From Emergency Call Person Armed - Foot Chase - Memphis Police Car Stolen - Escaped

MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say a squad car was stolen while officers were responding to a call.

It happened in the 1900 block of Philsar around 11:15 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2009.

According to Memphis police spokesperson Karen Rudolph, the officers were responding to a call about a person who was armed. When the officers got to the scene, they saw two men running away. Rudolph says one of the officers jumped out of his car and chased the men on foot.

The two suspects disappeared in a nearby wooded area and Rudolph says the officer was not able to catch them. When he returned to the place where he left his cruiser, he discovered that it had been stolen.

Rudolph says an alert was immediately broadcast to all officers. The police car was found a later in the back of a vacant lot in the 500 block of LeClede.

The vehicle has been towed and is being processed for evidence, Rudolph said. She went on to say that police received information about a possible suspect, but no arrest has been made at this time.
