MEADVILLE -- A teenager was charged for allegedly stealing a state police cruiser as the trooper offered assistance to the teen's friends.
Trooper Wesley McClimans was patrolling Interstate 79 when he pulled over in Hayfield Township, near Meadville, around 10:45 p.m. Friday to offer help to two men in a stopped vehicle, police said.

The men told McClimans that they were looking for Ricky A. Anthony, 19, of Cochranton. While they were talking, Anthony appeared, jumped into the trooper's patrol car and sped south on I-79, according to police.

Other troopers searched for the car and found it parked along the highway a short distance away, and Anthony was arrested after a  chase on foot, Trooper David D. Pifer said. He was arraigned before District Judge Michael Rossi of Vernon Township on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and drunken driving.

Anthony is being held at the Crawford County Correctional Facility.
