A teenager who allegedly stole a Riverside Co. Patrol car was arrested
3/7/03

(Mead Valley, CA) -- A teenager who allegedly stole a Riverside County
sheriff's patrol car was arrested about an hour later.

Investigators said the youth was detained for a probation violation
and placed into the patrol car. The teen kicked out the car's window
in Mead Valley, jumped into the driver's seat and drove away.

The patrol car was recovered about 9:30 p.m. a few blocks from
where it was taken, sheriff Sgt. Kennedy-Smith said.

The deputies had gone to a home to talk to the teen about a
probation violation, Kennedy-Smith said. They put the teen in
the car and were talking to another person when the teen kicked
out a rear window and drove away, she said.

The deputies chased the car on foot.

"It all went very fast," she said.
