Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a man for stealing a police vehicle and making multiple traffic stops, despite the fact that he wasn't a police officer.

20-year-old Tahrell B. Johnson was apprehended just before 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, after several complaints about a man making traffic stops in a police car. They spotted the police car traveling through Cherokee Park, stopped it, and confronted Johnson about whether he was an officer.

Inside the vehicle, they allegedly found a BB gun that resembled a Glock 22 and a police shirt with a patch on the chest area. He was wearing a bullet-proof vest, and had a handheld radio and a Mag light in the car.

Police say Johnson admitted that he wasn't one of the rank and file.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the police car had been stolen from the Metro Police Records center on Barret Ave. near E. Breckinridge St.

Johnson was charged with theft by unlawful taking and impersonation of a peace officer.
