LOS ANGELES -- A man involved in a road rage incident in East Los
Angeles assaulted a sheriff's deputy and fled in her patrol car, crashed
the cruiser during the ensuing pursuit and was arrested, authorities
said.

The confrontation between the road-rage suspect and deputies occurred
at the intersection of Eagle Street and Margaret Avenue about 11:45
p.m. Monday, said Lt. Victor Trujillo of the sheriff's East Los Angeles
Station.

Salvador Saucedo, 29, and another motorist had been involved in a road
rage incident and both were stopped beside the road when deputies
arrived, Trujillo said.

Saucedo punched and pushed the female deputy, then took the patrol
car, Trujillo said, adding that another deputy at the scene, a man, was
unable to stop him.

Deputies in another patrol car spotted the stolen cruiser and pursued it
for six minutes until it crashed into a concrete barrier at First Street and
Central Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, Trujillo said.

Saucedo was then taken into custody without incident and later booked.

Saucedo and the female deputy were both taken to a nearby hospital
and treated for minor injuries, Trujillo said.
