Los Angeles, CA - Man In Court for Stealing LA Airport Police Officer's Patrol Car - Dragging Him - Charged With Murder

LOS ANGELES—A man accused of killing a Los Angeles International Airport police officer during a carjacking is mentally competent to stand trial, a judge determined Monday.
William Sadowski, 50, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Officer Tommy Edward Scott, who was dragged to his death as he attempted to hold on to his patrol car.

Scott, 35, was the first airport police officer to die in the line of duty in the department's 59-year-old history.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steven Van Sicklen made the determination after reviewing a report by a forensic neuropsychologist who examined Sadowski.

Prosecutors allege Sadowski gained control of Scott's patrol car during a struggle between the two men and drove off, dragging Scott along the driver's side of the car before crashing into a fire hydrant.

The murder charges against Sadowski include the special circumstance allegations of murder of a peace officer and murder during a carjacking. Prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
