LODI — A man stole a police car from the scene of an accident Saturday
afternoon, only to abandon it later, police said.
The police car was taken from the intersection of Leo Place and St. Joseph
Boulevard, according to authorities. The man then traveled north onto Route 46
east and left it in the parking lot of Pizza Hut restaurant, police said. He
fled on foot.
Bergen County Police were called by Lodi police to bring a K-9 unit to the scene
at 3:37 p.m., Bergen County Police Sgt. Robert Abrahamsen said.
Further details were unavailable.
The matter remains under investigation.
