Man Back in Custody After Escaping from Deputies and Stealing NY Police Car

- - A Niagara County man is back in custody Sunday morning after escaping from deputies and stealing a police car. Officers arrested 28 year old John Paul Oliver in Lockport Saturday morning for violating his parole.The Sheriff's Department says the arresting officer handcuffed Oliver and locked him in the back of his patrol car, but somehow he escaped and stole the police cruiser. Niagara County Sheriff Thomas Beilein: "We don't know how he got from the back to the front and how he got the handcuffs from behind his back to his front."
