LIVINGSTON -- Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies recaptured a St. Helena Parish Prison escapee Friday night after joining St. Helena deputies in an all-day search for the inmate.
Detective Supervisor Stan Carpenter of the Livingston Sheriff's Office said that members of the public called in information that pinpointed the fugitive's whereabouts -- a mobile home on Lockhart Road near Denham Springs.

Seaton Odell Williams, 33, of Holden surrendered to deputies who surrounded the trailer, authorities said.

Williams was jailed in Livingston Parish after his capture and booked with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, auto theft, possession of a firearm by a felon and being a fugitive.

Williams had been in the St. Helena Parish Prison awaiting trial in a burglary case, said Courtney Moran, prison supervisor.

Williams escaped sometime early Friday morning, Moran said.

The circumstances of Williams' escape are under investigation by the St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office, Moran said.

Carpenter said Williams allegedly stole an unmarked St. Helena Parish sheriff's patrol car when he escaped.

Sometime around 10 a.m. Friday, Williams allegedly drove the unmarked vehicle to a residence on Dunn Road in Denham Springs, where Williams stole some rifles, a .38-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber pistol, Carpenter said.

The homeowner who discovered Williams in his residence attempted to hold Williams at gunpoint, Carpenter said. The homeowner told deputies he shot at both Williams and the unmarked police car as Williams fled, Carpenter said.

Williams wrecked the unmarked police car about 50 yards away from the residence and then stole a pickup truck to continue his escape, Carpenter said.

The homeowner's call to the Livingston Sheriff's Office around 10:30 a.m. Friday touched off a parishwide search, Carpenter said.
