Liberal police investigate theft of sheriff's vehicle
By The News staff
LIBERAL - Liberal police and the Seward County Sheriff's Department are
investigating the theft of Sheriff Bill McBryde's official vehicle.
The vehicle apparently was taken from an unidentified location in
Liberal and recovered the same day in the city after it was crashed into a
parked Liberal Police Department vehicle, said Sgt. Jason Ott of the Liberal
Police Department.
Ott said authorities have made no arrests in the matter and continue to seek
information in the case.
"We're just still trying to locate some suspects," he said.
Ott released few details - including where the sheriff's vehicle was stolen
from and where it and the police car were found. He said release of those
details would hamper the investigation.
"This is a little higher profile," Ott said.
He described McBryde's auto as an unmarked vehicle.
Sheriff's officials referred comment on the matter to police.
