Las Vegas, NV - Attempted Home Break - Chase- Suspect Steals Nye Co. Sheriff's K-9 Cruiser with DOG -Gets stuck in Desert Dirt
Pahrump County, NV - Matthew Green, 27, and Christina Holmes, 25, proved you don't have to be in a car or truck to be involved in a police chase on May 2 when they attempted to escape from the law on a red all-terrain vehicle.
And when that didn't work, Holmes attempted to steal a sheriff's K-9 patrol vehicle while her alleged partner in crime was being arrested.
Unfortunately for the would-be Bonnie and Clyde, none of their attempts to elude the Nye County Sheriff's Office worked, and both were ultimately arrested and booked on an impressive array of charges.
It all began at around 4:45 p.m. when Sheriff's Dep. Olsen was traveling south on David Street just south of Basin Avenue.
The deputy spotted the ATV, driven by Green with Holmes as his passenger, driving toward him on the road.
Olsen flipped on his lights and siren to pull them over for driving an unregistered vehicle on a public way.
Green took one look at Olsen's cruiser and decided to make a run for it from the stop sign at the intersection of David Street and Basin Avenue at what Olsen described as a high speed.
With the cruiser following about 50 to 60 yards behind him, Green made a left onto Chapparel Avenue. By this time, Olsen had the cruiser up to 60 miles an hour.
Green then attempted to leave the deputy behind by going off into the desert between Leslie Street and Woodchips Road, where Olsen lost sight of the all-terrain travelers.
Out of sight but certainly not out of the NCSO's mind, the couple was later located on their ATV in the desert off of West Basin Avenue and Warren Street toward California.
They were finally stopped by deputies around Ash Meadows, where they jumped off their trusty four-wheeler and, this time, made a literal run for it.
By now, however, a veritable troupe of deputies were on hand to stop the pair, as well as Highway Patrol Trp. Cobel.
As the deputies handcuffed and arrested Green, his accomplice Holmes hopped into Dep. Murphy's K-9 unit and attempted to flee the scene in that vehicle, with the dog deputy still in the back seat.
She quickly discovered that a K-9 cruiser is no ATV, however, and ended up getting stuck in the dirt.
Although Holmes took off on foot yet again, Trp. Cobel apprehended her.
This story didn't end with the arrest of the suspects though.
As the deputies were clearing the scene, residents at a nearby house told them that earlier in the day Holmes had attempted to break into their home through the back door in an attempt to escape from the deputies.
Green was booked on a variety of driving infractions in addition to the charge of evading and eluding police, including driving without a driver's license, unregistered vehicle, having no insurance, failure to stop at a stop sign, and three turns with no signal.
This resulted in a total bail of $11,449.
Holmes' attempts to escape the long arm of the law resulted charges of grand larceny, attempted home invasion, kidnapping and mistreatment/interfering with a police animal on duty.
In addition, it was later discovered she had felony warrants out on her.
Holmes' attempts at a disappearing act warranted $40,000 bail.
