Police car stolen in Las Vegas
By Vin Suprynowicz - February 5,1996
Taken from "How much crime starts when the police arrive?"
This case is not unique. On Dec.30, 19-year old Daniel
Jimenez tried to make a getaway in a stolen police car in
downtown Las Vegas after cops pulled him over on a
"routine traffic stop." Finding a handgun and a small
quantity of drugs after a warrantless search, Vegas cops
handcuffed the limber young man and told him his car was
being seized. The young man slipped the handcuffs under his
feet and drove away in the police car. An officer was
dragged down the street hanging onto the door, firing his
service revolver into Jimenez, who ended up in critical
critical condition on life support, and charged with the
"attempted murder of a police officer."
