Lafayette Man Arrested for Armed Robbery
and Stealing Police Car

Police arrested a 21-year-old man earlier today in connection with an
attempted robbery and stealing a police car.
According to police, around 9:18 a.m., Monday morning, an individual was
approached by a suspect in the parking lot of a business in the 1300 block of
Moss Street.
The suspect portrayed himself to be armed and attempted to rob the victim, who
refused to comply, causing the suspect of flee.
Five minutes later, the suspect stole an unmarked Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s
Office patrol car from a parking lot near the intersection of Moss and Pine
Street.
An all-points-bulletin was placed fo the stolen unit, which was located
by another Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s unit near Woodpecker Road.
The stolen vehicle was pursued into St. Martin Parish by law enforcement
officials, where the vehicle crashed at Poche Bridge.
Shortly after the crash, a pursuit of the suspect on foot occurred. He
was later captured by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Celestine, 21, of Lafayette, was charged with unauthorized use of
a movable, attempted first-degree robbery and felony in possession of a
firearm
