KENT, WA — Police are looking for a man they say stole a patrol car with a police dog in the back seat yesterday near Kent.

Shortly after midnight yesterday, a Kent police officer spotted a man and a passenger in a stolen car near Southeast 220th Place and 108th Avenue Southeast in unincorporated King County. The officer pursued them until the car drove off the road and smashed into a rock wall at Southeast 192nd Street and 108th Avenue Southeast, police said.

The officer chased the driver on foot, but the man was able to double back and jump into the police car, which was still running, police said. As the man drove past the officer, the officer shot out a rear tire, said Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen.

The man drove the car several blocks and then abandoned it on a side road. The police dog, still in the car, was uninjured, Petersen said.

Police say they were able to identify the man from a number of items he left behind in the cars.
