Assault Victim Steals Patrol Car
KENOVA, W. Va. - When an officer who had responded to an assault
early Sunday walked across the road to talk to a witness, the victim
of the assault leaped into the officer's patrol car and sped off,
authorities said.
Mark Aaron Wells, 23, was captured a short time later after the officer
got a ride with a Ceredo officer who had also responded to the assault.
Authorities said Kenova Officer Brian Vickers came to Wells' assistance
about 4:30 a.m.. Vickers called for EMT's to come and treat Wells before
walking across the street to interview a witness, said Steve Salyers,
Chief of Kenova's Department of Public Safety.
Salyers said Vickers had no reason to think Wells would take the patrol
car.
Wells was incarcerated in Wayne County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
