Police officers always tell us not to leave our vehicles running unattended. They may want to take their own advice.

Alex Coomer, 29, is accused of stealing a police cruiser left running with the keys in it at 10th Street and Broadway around 3:50 a.m. Saturday. Hey, that's my neighborhood! After the jump, a stoner movie reference.

Coomer allegedly sped off south in the Ford Crown Vic. Officers in another cruiser spotted the stolen car around 20th Street and Broadway. Coomer allegedly ditched the car and ran on foot. However, the officers caught up with him at 20th and Washington. Coomer is accused of resisting arrest, so he ended up with a face full of pepper spray.

Coomer admitted to detectives that he stole the police car and knew that it was wrong to take it. He is officially charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
