A burglary suspect managed to escape from a North Texas town's jail and steal
a police car, but was re-apprehended after a high-speed chase involving at least
six law enforcement agencies, according to sheriff's deputies.
26-year-old Rusty Edward Taylor was in custody of Ponder police early Monday
evening for allegedly burglarizing a home on Robson road. Somehow around 7:00
p.m. he allegedly escaped and got into a Justin police car.
Denton County Sheriff's spokesman Tom Reedy says Taylor flipped on the lights
and siren of the police car and fled north on I-35 toward the Oklahoma border.
Along with Ponder police, other agencies gave chase including Justin police,
Denton County Sheriff's, a Cooke County constable, Gainesville police and the
Department of Public Safety deputies.
Lawmen finally used spike strips to stop the runaway vehicle at the Oklahoma
border, and Taylor was re-arrested. Late Monday night he was expected back
at the Ponder police department to be booked on additional charges
