A 22-year-old West Jordan man who allegedly stole the car and 9 mm handgun of Salt Lake County Deputy District Attorney Kent Morgan has been charged with second-degree felony theft.

Court records say the car was stolen from Morgan’s garage July 1 and later abandoned in West Jordan; the gun was missing from the trunk.

While checking on a party in the same neighborhood, August 23, police found Morgan’s gun inside a coat. Several people from the party told police they saw the man with Morgan’s gun and the he had bragged about stealing a cop’s car and gun, court records say.

The 22-year-old was also charged with possession of a firearm by a restricted person, also a second-degree felony.
