Suspect Arrested After Two Separate Vehicle Pursuits,
escaped and crashed a police cruiser

11/12/02
INDIANAPOLIS - A 54-year-old man who was wanted for
the robbery of a video store led police officers on two
separate vehicle pursuits late Monday.

The incident started when officers initiated a pursuit of
Lashun Edwards. Edwards had robbed a Blockbuster Video store.
Trying to make his getaway, Edwards then stole a pickup
truck from its occupant.

The truck's owner flagged down an officer and a pursuit of
Edwards began.

Fleeing at high speeds from the officers, the suspect crashed
the stolen truck into a drainage ditch.

Edwards fled from the truck and attempted to hide in a nearby
wooded area. He was found by one officer who struggled with
him.

During the struggle, the officer's weapon discharged and Edwards
used the opportunity to run away.

As other officers ran up to assist, Edwards jumped into a patrol
vehicle at the scene and sped away.

The second pursuit ended when Edwards side swiped a car and
lost control of the cruiser.

He was apprehended a second time by a K-9 and his handler.

Edwards faces numerous charges stemming from the incident,
including robbery, theft, criminal recklessness, receiving
stolen property, and resisting arrest.

He also has an outstanding warrant from Texas.
