HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Princeton Christian School in Homestead was placed on
lockdown Wednesday afternoon after police said a man stole a Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission lieutenant's vehicle.
According to officials, the wildlife lieutenant had stopped to help a man who
was driving erratically on the rim of one of his tires on Southwest 122nd Court.
Officials said the man's car hit a mailbox before coming to a stop.
The man and lieutenant got into a struggle and the man grabbed the
lieutenant's gun before driving off in his gold Ford Explorer, officials said.
The Explorer was later found in a canal near the school and robbery
detectives took the suspect into custody a time later.
Officers had set up a perimeter in the area of Southwest 248th Street and
Southwest 133rd Avenue to try and nab the suspect.
The lieutenant received injuries, police said, and was taken to a local
hospital.
