Orange Co., FL - Sheriff's Patrol SUV Stolen at Silent Alarm Call with 2 Guns - Helicopter and K-9 Search

Local Deputy's Search for Missing Patrol Car

04/13/07

An Orange County sheriff's deputy was responding to a call on Thursday night when he became the victim of a crime himself, officials said.

Investigators said the deputy's unmarked patrol car was stolen while he was answering a silent alarm call at the Value Pawn store on Silver Star Road, WESH 2 News reported.

When the deputy came out of the pawn shop, his sport utility vehicle was gone.

"We believe the keys were in the vehicle when he stepped away from the car," said Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson.

The SUV had two guns inside, investigators said. One gun was secured in the front seat, and the other was locked up in a vault.

Deputies searched for the stolen SUV with a chopper overhead and K-9s on the ground. They found the car about 1 mile from where they said it was stolen, and police arrested Wilbur Seright.

Nothing was stolen from the deputy's vehicle. The sheriff's office said there will likely be a review of whether the deputy followed policy.
