Harney man guilty in police car joy ride, 18 months in jail term

A Harney, MD, man pleaded guilty in Carroll 
Circuit Court yesterday to stealing a
state police cruiser and beating a man in 
unrelated incidents last year. Judge Raymond E.
Beck Sr. will sentence Daniel D. Connell, 19,
of the 5000 block of Harney Road on June 17. 
As part of a plea bargain, Connell will 
receive an unspecified prison sentence with 
all but 18 months suspended for going on a 
joyride in a stolen police car on Oct. 23.
The maximum sentence for felony theft is 15
years.
