HANCOCK COUNTY - Thursday was a nice day for a drive, but Glenn Fayard had the rules wrong, authorities say. Fayard, 52, was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly led sheriff's deputies on a low-speed joyride along Mississippi 603 in a stolen patrol car. Authorities believe Deputy Tim Campbell was wrestled to the ground by Fayard while responding to a suspicious-person report on Washington Street. Because the investigation is not complete, police could not say whether the patrol car was left running during the fracas, or what triggered the scuffle. Fayard allegedly drove the commandeered patrol car north on Mississippi 603 toward Kiln, where other deputies used "stop-sticks" - sharp metal spikes - which punctured three tires and ended the chase. No injuries were reported. Fayard was being held without bond at the Hancock County jail on one count of felony grand larceny and two counts of assault. |
