Greenville Co., S.C. - Deputy Involved SHOOTING Under Investigation by SLED - Patrol Car Stolen
Oct 24, 2006
There's a mystery surrounding a Greenville County deputy, and someone who
took off in his patrol car, which was parked at his house.
We've learned shots were fired, but the sheriff's office isn't saying
much, while the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED)
investigates.
The deputy, whose name hasn't been released, has minor injuries. There's no word
if he's on leave, and they won't say if the suspect is in custody.
Charles Rachal's wooden fence on Lamont Lane will need a few repairs, because
he says a patrol car damaged it.
"I was asleep. My wife woke me up. I thought someone was trying to get in the
back door. I came out and, found a car parked in my driveway against [a] post."
His wife now thinks what she heard was gunfire, around six o'clock Monday
morning. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office confirms, a deputy was involved.
"The deputy told me that the man was trying to steal his car and he chased
him in his pickup truck, and this is where he wound up."
At some point, shots were fired. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office
isn't releasing a lot of details, because SLED is investigating, but Rachal
tells FOX Carolina the deputy was trying to warm up his car, and left it
unattended- something he would never do.
"If they're walking by and want a ride, they'll just drive it off. That's
what happened to that man's car," said Rachal.
