Police: Suspect Broke Into Car With Detective Inside

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Authorities said Monday that a suspect was arrested after an attempted break-in of an unmarked police car with a detective inside.

WXII 12's Melissa Marsh has more on this story during our 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.


Rakama Wafula Johnson, 27, was charged with attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools and resist, delay and obstruct of an officer.


Police said Johnson observed a parked vehicle on Cheshire Way and tried to break into it, not realizing it was an unmarked police car
. The detective inside the car exited the vehicle and took Johnson into custody after a "struggle," according to a statement from the Greensboro Police Department.

A passenger with Johnson, Steven McKeller, was charged with conspiracy to commit breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, police said.
