Suspect Shot After Stealing Sheriff's Department Vehicle
Arrested Sunday Afternoon

(July 22, 2007)
A 22 year old man from Goliad is behind bars after stealing a sheriff's department cruiser, then leading officials on a 2 county, 12 hour chase.

It started with a traffic stop in Goliad County, around 2am Sunday. 22 year-old Franklin Anthony Scott somehow managed to get behind the wheel of the cruiser, took off, then raced through Beeville and up to Pettus.

He later crashed that unit, then took off on foot, and also took crusier's shotgun with him.

Scott was not seen again until 2pm Sunday in Pettus, when he was spotted by a sheriff's deputy and by an off-duty Corpus Christi police officer. They gave chase, and caught up with Scott as he was trying to steal another car. During the confrontation, Scott reached for the shotgun and fired at the officers. They shot back, hitting him once in the buttocks.

Scott was taken to Spohn Beeville, treated, and handed over to the Bee County Sheriff's Department.

He is now in the Bee County Jail, charged with attempted murder, evading arrest, and more.
