Man Steals & Crashes Fresno Police Car
By Amanda Perez
A Fresno man stole a police patrol car Friday night and then led
officers on a chase. It happened in Northwest Fresno.
It began with a report of a man acting suspiciously at a bank near Shaw and Shaw
Lane. Police say he appeared to be under the influence and when approached by
officers he was somewhat cooperative, at first.
"The suspect, at that point, for somewhat reason jumped up off the curb and ran
around to the driver's side door of the police vehicle. He entered the police
vehicle, which was still running at this point, and attempted to put the vehicle
in drive," said Fresno Police Sergeant Pete Boyer.
Police say there was a struggle, but eventually the man was able to take off
in the car, driving erratically before crashing near the intersection of Bullard
and Marks. He then ran away from the scene.
"Residents in the area were extremely helpful in providing information where the
subject was running to because he was hopping fences and so forth," Sergeant
Boyer said.
The suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Jacob Burrows of Fresno.
Police say he's facing numerous charges and they're still trying to figure out
why he chose to steal the police car.
