Texas - A 29-year-old man remained in jail Saturday night awaiting charges
after allegedly stealing a deputy's patrol car and wrecking it on Friday night.
In sketchy reports, the incident began when city police and sheriff's deputies
responded to a fight in progress in the 1600 block of West 20th Street shortly
before 9 p.m. Friday.
As they were investigating the reported fight, the suspect jumped into
an unattended sheriff's car and fled the scene.
While a search was being conducted, police received a call about a traffic
accident in the 2900 block of Fresno.
Arriving officers found that the stolen patrol car had run into a gas meter
and two parked cars. The unidentified suspect apparently was arrested
at the scene.
No additional information was available by press time Saturday night.
