A man, Eric Miskovitch awaits arraignment Friday after allegedly eluding police for nearly a week. Eric Miskovitch had been on the run since last weekend. But Thursday night in Fox Chapel, police caught up with him.

As police hauled him away, Miskovitch talked about his motivation. "All I was doing was trying to make good on a promise," Miskovitch said. Miskovitch said, "I’ll be ending my life."

A reported asked, "What do you mean"?

Miskovitch replied, "I’m not going back to prison."

Miskovitch had been on the run for six days, accused of kidnapping a teenager, stealing cars, and leading police on car chases.

The search began around 8 p.m., Thursday with a tip from a neighbor who saw him on a motorcycle. Police gave chase and Miskovitch crashed the motorcycle.

Frightened residents watched as he then ran through one neighborhood, stole a bicycle from a garage, and tried to get away again.

Miskovitch faces charges of assault, armed robbery and car theft.

Officers from several communities converged on Fox Chapel to find Miskovitch. But it was Millvale police officer Warren Lilly and his K9 partner who actually caught him.

Lilly said, "My dog had apprehended him and he was on the ground and I gave him the command to release and we handcuffed him and took him into custody. It’s a good feeling. Like I said, He’s been menacing the area for a while and you know, every officer takes it to heart a little bit. They want this guy to get caught. So, it was time (and) I’m glad it was me."

This isn’t the first time Miskovitch has had run-ins with the law.

He escaped form the Ambridge police station and stole a police car. He was caught five days later and sent to jail. He then escaped from the Beaver County Jail less than a year later.

He had been paroled several times, but has been sent back for two different parole violations; first in 2001, and then again in 2003. His latest parole was April 6, 2004 less than four months before his latest alleged crime spree.

He has been on the run since early Saturday morning, accused of several crimes including kidnapping and robbery.
