FORT MILL, NC -- Police agencies from throughout York County and parts of North Carolina formed a net Sunday night around a man who had stolen a Fort Mill Police Department patrol car.

A Fort Mill dispatcher said Fort Mill police were on a call around 9:45 p.m. when the man jumped into a patrol car and took off. Rock Hill police and the S.C. Highway Patrol joined Fort Mill in the chase. Police were asked to use extreme caution because there was a shotgun in the car.

The suspect, believed to be traveling on U.S. 21, lost police, but was spotted again on Carowinds Boulevard.

He headed toward Belmont, N.C., where Belmont police, Gaston County, N.C., sheriff's deputies and the N.C. Highway Patrol fell in behind him.

A slow-speed chase ensued and the suspect led the entourage back to York County, where York County Sheriff's Office deputies joined the net as he headed toward Rock Hill.

Police were still following the suspect in Rock Hill at 11 p.m.
