Deputy's car taken by juvenile in custody Staff report

ARIZONA  - A San Juan County Sheriff's squad car was stolen 
Tuesday evening, a ride that lasted only about a mile.

Deputy Floyd Foutz said he had taken a juvenile male into custody in the
Wildflower subdivision about 6:45 p.m. The juvenile, whose name was not
released, was able to get free from the back seat and through the cage
of the squad car and into the driver's seat.

Foutz said the youth then took off in his car. Moments later he was 
involved in an accident on Browning Parkway and again taken into custody.

The squad car suffered extensive damage to the passenger side when it 
collided with another car.

Asked if the juvenile was handcuffed, Foutz declined comment. The youth
was in custody over a domestic incident, he said.
