Police have shot a man after stealing an unmarked police car and then leading them on a wild chase through a residential neighborhood that finally ended near Loehmann's Plaza in Falls Church.

Police are calling this "complicated investigation" involving several officers and several neighborhoods.

Police received a call at around 4:35 p.m. about a suspicious person in a black Mercedes at the 2900 block of Westcott Street. An officer approached the suspect and there was a fight between the two.

The suspect then fled towards a home in the neighborhood. Investigators say an officer chased after the suspect and another officer arrived to back up the officer to assist in the chase. The suspect circled back around and drove off in an unmarked police cruiser.

After another pursuit, the suspect eventually got out of the police cruiser to get back into his Mercedes. After a few attempts to stop the suspect in the Mercedes, which included officers placing stop sticks at Oakland Street, authorities say the suspect tried to run over an officer.

The officer fired shots at the driver where the suspect was injured. The suspect continued driving until he eventually stopped at Loehmann’s Plaza.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One officer and a pedestrian had minor injuries.
