Man out of Hospital and in Jail after Attacking Officer

The man who allegedly attacked a Hinton police officer and was then shot is
back at the Southern Regional Jail.
State Police say a Hinton officer shot Albert William Halstead II during a
fight.
It happened Friday night outside the Southern Regional Jail.
State Police say the officer was taking Halstead to the jail on a DUI charge.
Investigators say Halstead tried to steal the cruiser, when the officer got
out of the car to use the jail's intercom.
The two began fighting, and troopers say it ended when the officer shot
Halstead in the leg.
Both men were taken to Raleigh General Hospital with non life-threatening
injuries.
Halstead was released from the hospital. He just returned to the jail around 5
p.m. Monday.
He faces charges of attempted escape and assault and battery on a police
officer.
There was no word yet on the officer's identity.
