EXETER, N.H. -- The case of a police cruiser stolen 10 years ago from the
South Hampton Police Department has been solved.
Police assisted by a Fish and Game dive team recovered the 1997 Crown
Victoria from the Exeter River near Gilman Park on Friday. The submerged car was
found about 50 feet fro the shoreline in a depth of 10 to 12 feet.
Inside were a lot of eels and fish - and a stolen shotgun in the trunk,
which authorities said they expected to find.
The police cruiser was stolen in a burglary from the department. The
Rockingham County Sheriff's office came across new information in the case that
led authorities to search the river.
The engineer for the Town of Exeter, Jennifer Perry, advised that the public
water supply was never at risk at any time during the recovery
