A Cedar Grove woman stole an El Dorado County sheriff's patrol car Saturday, then crashed into a tree a short distance away, authorities reported last week.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Lynnette Yvonne Worthy, 23, on suspicion of vehicle theft and driving under the influence.

They also arrested Scott Stephen Barrett, 47, of Pollock Pines on suspicion of resisting a peace officer and driving with a suspended license.

The incident began about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when a patrol deputy noticed a gold Mazda sedan carrying two people backing out of a driveway on Pony Express Trail.

Barrett, whom officials say the deputy knew had a suspended license, lives there. The deputy followed the vehicle as it twice swerved into the opposite lane.

The deputy flashed the patrol car lights, and the car swerved once more, nearly hitting a passing car, before pulling to the side of the road, police said.

Barrett, who was driving the vehicle, got out of the car and ran about 40 yards before the deputy caught him, police said.

As Barrett was led back up a hill toward the road, the deputy noticed the patrol car move, then accelerate toward southbound Shangrala Lane.

Worthy allegedly drove the patrol car through brush, then pulled behind a home and crashed into a tree.

When deputies arrived, Worthy reached into the patrol car, attempting to grab a shotgun from the vehicle's gun rack, police reports state. She tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to officials. Deputies say they placed Worthy and Barrett into the back of another patrol car, and Worthy began convulsing.

Medics took Worthy to Marshall Medical Center. She was then taken to El Dorado County jail. The Sheriff's Department has asked the district attorney to consider charging Worthy with attempting to take a firearm from a peace officer.

Suspected solicitor arrested
El Dorado County sheriff's deputies arrested a man Saturday on charges of failing to carry a permit to conduct door-to-door sales after residents complained the man was acting aggressively.
Derrick Terrell Toliver, 27, was arrested on suspicion of being an unlicensed solicitor. He was cited at El Dorado County jail and released after deputies identified him through fingerprints.

Deputies were called to Topaz Lane in Cameron Park about 3 p.m. Saturday after a woman reported that a door-to-door solicitor had been aggressive and rude. Deputies found Toliver nearby. He told deputies he was selling magazines. Toliver, whose last known residence is Chicago, could not provide identification.

He told deputies he was unaware that he needed a permit and denied being rude.
