EDMOND - A man has been arrested after taking a police cruiser on a "joy ride," said spokeswoman Glynda Chu.

About 1:50 a.m. an officer was on patrol near the Wolf Trap Bar, 1109 S. Broadway, when a man flagged him down and said something suspicious was going on between some individuals at a nearby corner. When the officer got out of his car to check out what was going on, a man jumped into the cruiser and took off southbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed, Chu said in a news release.

Using a vehicle locator system in the cruiser, officers found it at about 2 a.m. in the 2600 block of 33rd Street behind a Taco Bell. The man had crashed the vehicle, striking a curb and knocking down a stop sign.

He was not injured and the police car was operable.

Police arrested Aaron William Green, 29, of Edmond on a complaint of driving under the influence and larceny of a vehicle.

The officer's name has not been released and the incident will undergo a routine review.

"We are very glad no one was injured," Chu wrote in the release.
