East Orange police search for cop car
stolen in front of deputy chief's house

EAST ORANGE -- City police were searching for an unmarked police car that was
stolen from in front of a deputy chief's house Sunday morning.
Sgt. Andrew Di Elmo said that the deputy chief had parked and locked the black
2008 Ford Crown Victoria in front of his house on McKay Avenue near the Newark
border. He observed the car around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Di Elmo said, and 45
minutes later, it was gone.
Di Elmo said the car has no tracking device on it, but it contains a police
radio and computer.
Police have responded to alleged sightings of the car in Hillside, East Orange,
Irvington and other cities, but have not located it.
The car has a New Jersey license place with the number VCL46M. Anyone with
