The trunk lid of the 2005 Impala rises above the water as Dyer County Sheriff's deputy and diver Rick Gregory readies to try and attach a cable to the vehicle.
A car stolen from a Dyersburg Police officer's residence south of Newbern was discovered sunken in a farm pond near the Rehoboth community in east Dyer County on Friday.
Dyer County Sheriff's Department deputies were able to recover the vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, after diver Rick Gregory attached a cable from a Lowery's Wrecker Service truck to pull it out.

The car had been reported stolen about 7 a.m. Friday.

The vehicle was discovered on private property by a neighbor who had arrived at the lake at about 9 a.m. to fish. The pond is located off Greenberg Road.

The car was visible only by the trunk lid, which had popped open above the water. The car was pulled onto the bank by the wrecker at about 11:40 a.m.

The incident follows a string of reports in the early morning hours on Friday in the RoEllen area of vandalism and stolen vehicles.
